Payback: India's way

Payback: India's way

Today we witnessed a historical event, a response every Indian dreamed about till now.
Indian Army launched a "surgical strike" targeting several "launch pads" which were being used to insert terrorist in India. At least 6-8 targets were hit and 35-40 militants has been neutralized. This story seems to be recent but it has beginning in early 1970s.

The Beginning

It has been a mass opinion that CIA was to blamed for rise of modern day terrorism which has started in Afghanistan. The truth is Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was the one who began the ISI cell in Afghanistan to destabilize government of Dawood Khan long before Soviet Afghan war which started in 1979.
CIA utilized these units to fund and train Mujahideens for the war. CIA came and left with the conclusion of war in 1989 but the Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI, continued using this proxy force against Afghanistan and India.

Continual of Proxy War Against India

ISI raised its power within government structure of Pakistan by several folds which resulted in military coup and power grab games. ISI has made sure that it can control government decisions at will. It established a military owned industrial complex to further increase its control. Kargil war was just an example of its tactics. They spread chaos in Kashmir valley and started targeting different Indian cities and establishment. We witnessed attack on Parliament and Mumbai and several other painful attacks. India came close to a war in 2001 and 2008.

India's Previous Responses

India was not able to punish the attacks of 2001 and 2008 attacks. We generally blame our government but our problems were more deeper than we thought.
First of all, Indian Army took time to gather itself in 2001.This time caused a major drawback. International community was able to mount pressure on India to not proceed in an offensive way so the government was not able to take decision of war during this time.
So a new doctrine known as "Cold Start" was conceived to replace age old non offensive "Sundarji Doctrine". 2008 was the same story, Indian Army has progressed a from 2001 situation but it was not on desired level. Indian establishment learned and rectified those error since then.

Pathankot Attack

In May 2014, Narendra Modi invited Nawaz  Sharif to his inaugural ceremony to continue diplomatic approach towards Pakistan related foreign policy.
On 2 January, Pathankot Air Force Base was attacked. It was perceived as major security breach. NDA government took age old and failed diplomatic approach to invite Pakistani investigation agencies on our soul. It was a huge blunder. The government failed miserably in its approach and it must have been an eye opener for PM.

Uri Attack and Response

On 18th September, amid valley's unrest, an army exchange base was attacked. 18 security personals were martyred and several were injured badly during this attack. This was a again a security lapse though LOC borders are very hard to be monitored 24/7. The attack caused wide spread criticism of NDA government of its lack of response. The public pressure was very high and so were the hopes of people.

There are several ways in which the government could have responded to this attack, such as
1- Economic sanction
2-Diplomatic isolation
3-Military's direct response(Surgical Strike)
4-Covert operations
Here, economic sanctions and diplomatic option would have created much less effect due to Chinese support of Pakistan and very small trading relations between them.
Covert operations would have been a bad option in my opinion since we would have been in same bracket as Pakistan(Pakistan ki Bhasha) which shed a bad light in international community.
So the surgical strike was chosen to punish terrorist establishment.

The Surgical Response

Indian Army chose a date which couldn't have been more better.
It was perfectly planned to be executed after UNGA speech of Sushma Swaraj and cancellation of SAARC summit. India first cornered Pakistan in UNGA and several countries slammed Pakistan including China for its deceiving policy on terrorism.
The strike took place from 2 AM to around 8 AM on 29/sep/2016 by most probably elite para commando unit. The whole event was video recorded and executed with perfection. "Video Recording" and DGMO statement which said "They informed Pakistani DGMO about strikes"  shows professionalism by our troops. This is in contrast of proxy wars that Pakistan uses against us.
So, India replied in its own professional language which also retained credibility of India among international community. The NDA government deserves all the credits and should be applaud for the bold decision.

What's Next

The troops on both sides are at highest level of alertness and these event might lead to a standoff.
Since India executed its plan professionally, the international community most likely will be with us.
Indian armed forces must assure that it do not lead to an all out war and should also be prepared for any contingency. On the diplomatic front, India is way ahead of Pakistan. So it will help us to create further pressure on Pakistan. Overall, India must be ready for any type of contingencies(Military or Diplomatic) and should handle it further with diplomacy if possible .

These strikes will definitely discourage terrorist establishment and propaganda of ISI at some level.

2015: Another year of Lionel Messi

When a 5’ 7” substituted Deco on 16th October 2004 for his debut with the first team, No one thought he will be this great to be compared with Pele and Maradona. As time passed, world watched a wonder to shatter all the records previously thought as impossible to be broken. This blog is dedicated to performance of him in 2015 only.

Lionel Messi started year 2015 on a bit low due to defeat of Argentina in world cup final, though his individual performance was above par and he won Golden Ball for it. After the world cup, he did what a champion is meant to do. He came back on a stronger note and helped his team to break all the previous goal scoring records and during the course of it, helped his team to win 5 trophies of the 6 available to win.

Signing of Luis Suarez caused Messi to shift as a right winger. Luis Enrique provided Messi his freedom to roam on the pitch. He now falls back as a midfielder and provides stunning lob balls over the defense to Neymar. He even acts as a CAM sometimes. This change of style in his play only increased his vision and he improved himself as a playmaker further.

At the start of 2015, FC Barcelona was very messy.
The club lost its first match of the year and there were speculation in media over a fight between Lionel Messi and Luis Enrique. Things start turning in favor of FC Barcelona when MSN scored together against Atletico Madrid. The rest of 2014-15 season saws domination of Barcelona and the trident of Messi, Neymar and Suarez scored a record 122 goals in single season. Messi scored the only goal against Atletico Madrid on 17th may which secured the La Liga title. He was 2nd highest goal scorer with 43 goals and top assist provider with 18 assists.
He also surpassed Luis Figo as highest assist provider of all time in La Liga. He was declared La Liga’s best player of the year award in later half of the year.

In Copa Del Rey final, He scored 2 goals and provided an assist in 3-1 score line against Athletic Bilbao. His opening goal was one of the greatest goals ever. He took ball from Dani Alves near half line dribbled past 4 opposing players and scored a lovely finish in tight space. The goal was nominated as one of the three finalist of FIFA Puskas Award 2015.

Champions league always brings the best out of Messi. This season was no different. In round of 16 Barca faced Manchester City as opponent. The world watched Milner and Kompany being nutmegged by Messi. He didn’t scored in the fixture but was at his absolute best.

The semifinal of 2014/15 champions league was one of the most talked about fixture of the year. It was Pep Guardiola’s  Bayern vs the beast he created.

Messi scored two goals and provided an assist. The second goal was brilliant that it broke the internet.
He left Jerome Boateng on the pitch and scored a beautiful chip over Neuer. It was year’s most tweeted sporting event. In final he didn’t scored but did everything on right note. FC Barcelona was crowned champions with 3-1 score against Juventus. He was joint top scorer and top assist provider of competition.
Lionel received UEFA best player in Europe award.

At the start of season he scored two goals from free kick against Sevilla in UEFA Super Cup. Barcelona managed to clinch the cup with 5-4 score line.

Messi scored the only goal for Barcelona in 5-1 aggregate loss in Supercopa De Espana against Athletic Bilbao.

Messi sustained an injury in match against Las Palmas on 26th September for almost two months.
He made his comeback in El Classico on 21st November.
Messi ended the year with scoring the opening goals against River Plate in Club World Cup.

Lionel Messi became a true leader for Argentina by acting as a playmaker for the team.
Argentina reached final of Copa America under Messi’s leadership though he scored only one goal. He provided 3 assists in a single game in 6-1 win over Paraguay. He rejected Most Valuable Player award of the tournament.

He ended the year with 52  goals and 26 assist despite missing action due to injury for almost two months. The trio of Messi, Neymar and Suarez managed to pile up 180 goals in single year(Another All Time Record). He also broke too many records to mention.

The year 2015 definitely belonged to  Lionel Messi and he is top contender for this year Ballon D’Or. He is 99.9% going to win this award for 5th time in his career on next monday,11th Jan. :)

Odd Even Formula: A Biased Analysis

History always repeats itself. It taught us on several occasions that we have to choose between necessity and comfort. The alarming and hazardous rise of air pollution brought us on verge of that flash point.

Air pollution is hitting us hard as it act as a active component of health issues.
According to a report of Global burden of Disease (GBD), outdoor air pollution was the fifth largest killer in India. It causes nearly 1 lakh premature deaths in India.
Nearly 30 million people suffer from Asthma in India.
These are some very basic facts which every one knows about.

The city of  Delhi has faced the worst situation. Last year it stood 1st in 1600 cities in level of air pollution. In layman terms, breathing in Delhi for a day is equal to smoking 10 cigarettes a day.

City of Delhi is well connected via public transport. So it will only bring small hiccups in the journey rather than havoc. The government has planned an increase in number of buses for this trial period.
Metro will run more frequently during this period.

We have to keep in mind that we are not doing it for ourselves, we are doing for upcoming generation. Every parent always assures the safety of its child. Now is our turn to fight the battle against pollution.

If, god forbid, the scheme fails, we have to look for other solutions. We should not start mocking the initiative.Thomas Edison didn't got a working bulb in first 2000 attempts. Even revolution of 1857 failed but it had worked as inspiration for the next generation and put India on track of freedom.

It is a now or never situation. Lets put our differences aside and  do everything possible to curb the pollution before it reaches point of no return.

In Odd Even Formula, citizens of Delhi are given a choice between comfortability and necessity.
Lets talk hypothetically(though it is very real), if you are  given a choice between your children's health or your comfortability. What will you choose?
